Flora on Black Series

I've been working on a new series called 'Flora on Black' for the past few weeks. Basically, I've been finding leaves from all the different plants in my backyard and photographing them on a black background using the sun as my only light source along with my Canon R that has been converted to 830nm infrared camera. I love the way the infrared makes the leaves almost glow. It's been fun so far and I plan to continue by searching for more leaves and plants to photograph.
My set up is pretty simple. I tape a black background onto the garage door, set the camera on a tripod, and use a spring clamp to attach the leaf or plant to a light stand. Bright sunlight seems to be the magic needed to make the infrared sensor work best and to bring that glow to the image. I have also been using a piece of black foam core that can be slipped behind a plant when I don't want to pull the leaves from it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this little blog post and don't forget to visit my kevinmorrisphotography.com for more of my art!
